Summer in January

I'm pining away for Florida—we just had a week long vacation there and it was just what I needed. It's amazing what 75 degree weather can do for you.

When I'm done pining, I'll get back to blogging. In the mean time, enjoy this little video from one of our days in the sun.

I can't get enough of chubby Katers. I hope she and Ellie are BFs when they get a little older. For now, they need to work on sharing.

Feelin' Crafty

Confession: I never thought I would own a sewing machine. Sewing was never my thing. My knowledge of it ended with a mandatory apron in 7th grade. That's it.

But because of my recent entrance into the stay-at-home mom world and with inspiration from some super-crafty friends, I slowly started thinking it would be cool to be able to sew things for Ellie, myself and friends and family.

My mom bought me a sewing machine for Christmas and I tried to set it up the other day--and failed. So I left the machine, useless, on my kitchen table. To tell you the truth, I was intimidated by it. Finally I decided to try again and even though I hate reading manuals, I broke it out and followed it to the tee. I got a little rush when I sewed a straight line on a piece of test fabric.

I went to Hobby Lobby later that day and saw a cute pair of glammed-up kitchen gloves with a matching apron and it in my cart to buy for my little sister's birthday. As I was about to check out, I realized I had just set up my sewing machine and could maybe make the gloves and apron on my own. So I put them back, recruited my sister for help and here are the results . . .

Haley & Me

Jess is going to look so cute in the kitchen!

I embroidered a little cursive j to make it more personal

I love the flower and the yellow & black combo {color scheme inspired by my cute friend Mollie!}

I think these gloves will make cleaning more fun, don't you?  Don't look too closely, we were kind of wingin it!

Next project: Finish this so Ellie will be somewhat occupied on our upcoming plane ride across the country!
